Meat Drive at Eid al Adha
Turkish Cultural Center of Queens and Helping Hands Relief Foundation participated “Meals on Wheels Program” of Sunnyside Community Services during a holly season for Muslims, Eid al-Adha (literally, Feast of the Sacrifice), by donating pounds of  meat to Sunnyside Community Center.

Veysel Ucan, Director of Turkish Cultural Center of Queens, informed the members of Sunnyside Community Services and some journalists about the history of feast of sacrifice and its meaning for Muslims. Then he  underlined in his speech that this practice causes cooperation and togetherness beyond slaughtering cows and goats. He declared that  many physically frail older residents of the community are alone; they have no family, or families live at a distance. As individuals live in this community, we can not remain insensitive and turn a blind eye the situation of poor and needy people. We are really proud of being hands reaching these people and construct bridges between Turkish people and Sunnyside community regardless of their religion and nationality.  To contribute to our society by sharing what we have, especially in our festival, is such an undefinable source of happiness for us.

After program, participants came together and took pictures to perpetuate this moment.
